Day #16 of 31 Days of Halloween
No Clowning around.
*Disclaimer: I wrote this with my eyes closed!!! Coulrophobia is a phobia of clowns and is very real.
Let’s take a trip to the outskirts of Nevada. Tonopah. Once a thriving mining town, with a bustling area of visitors and workers. It remains a community of just over 2000 people. There is plenty to do there, with Shops, nightlife, and casinos. Rated as one of the most surreal places for stargazing, the community boasts a busy dirt track raceway, its haven for rockhounds and outdoor enthusiasts. It also has the infamous Clown Motel…and of course, it's haunted too! Cause why wouldn't it be!
The area of the gift shop holds over an estimated 2000 clown and like paraphernalia. Figurines, Dolls, Marionettes, Pictures, and donated clown items line every inch of the hallway and rooms. According to the Clown Motel’s website, Leona and Leroy David renovated and built up the motel in 1985 in memory of their dad, Clarence David. Clarence loved clowns and collected them. He had 150 which Leona and Leroy decided to use as the theme and focal point of their motel in memory of their father.Which is funny enough, he is buried right next door he is the last known marker to be placed.
The Motel is situated right next to Tonopah Cemetery which has burials that date back to the 1900s, when a disastrous fire ran through the town which was closely followed by a mysterious disease and illness that took many of the original townspeople's lives.
Some say the Motel is haunted by wandering souls looking for their loved ones, others say the reason for the hauntings and creepy phenomenon is that because of Clarence's love for clowns spirits are drawn to the happy and cheerful colors. …I soooooo beg to differ.
The World-Famous Clown Motel guarantees its guests a unique overnight experience they’re unlikely to find anywhere else. Room 111 “The Exorcist Room”
Room 111 was the room where a terminally ill man came to live out his final days. Like many elderly motel guests, Doctors had given him a short time to live and he did not wish to burden his family.
Each night the man went to sleep, expecting to never wake up. Again and again he woke up to live another day until eventually – as he told the Motel Staff – he noticed an eerie shadow would appear in his room during the early hours of each morning.
He begged the spirit to take his life, a request he was repeatedly denied.
Overwhelmed with frustration the man shot himself in the Clown Motel car park.
Room 108 “It Room”
Not so long ago, motels were the best option for the elderly and terminally ill. One such elderly man was the Motel’s very own Front Desk Manager.
One night he was staying in the Motel and became severely unwell. He picked up the phone to call the Front Desk – it rang and rang but no response. He called his sister who called 911 but it was too late. He died on his way to the hospital.
When questioned, the Front Desk Agent from that night said the phone never rang and even played back the surveillance footage – which proved the phone never rang. It was almost as though something was trying to stop his calls for help…..
Room 222 “Clownvis Room”
The Clownvis Suite - Room 222 is a suite dedicated to our much loved superstar "Clownvis'' and all his fans! Clownvis Fun Fan Art will be on display in this room along with some of Clownvis's personal collection. Clownvis also wrote and performed 'Clown Motel' which can be found on YouTube which mentions this famous room. Recent reports show that the room has also been known to attract a malevolent entity who has a tendency of waking our guests in the early hours of the morning
